Scenario: LT-Health-Record System

  • LT is having a solution, which helps customers to maintain their health records
  • This ensures customers can store
    • diagnosis reports
    • Blood test reports
    • Radiological reports
    • Treatments
    • Prescriptions
    • Insurance claims & Suggestions
  • Later Patients can share this health record with any doctor for consulation.
  • High Level Architecture Preview
  • As of now this application is used in United states and LT has two data centers in United states.
  • Now learning thoughts wants to deploy this applicaton to
    • United Kingdom
    • India
    • Germany
  • If they go with their current deployment model, they need to build six data centers physically. So learning thoughts have hired Stacy who is solution architect to run the applications on Amazon Web Services Preview
  • Now Stacy has to design the solution to work in AWS, so she needs to explore different storage options
    • Available storage option
    • Backup
    • Recovery
    • Archival
    • NAS on Cloud

Scenario: LT-elearn

  • This is a new product line yet to be designed.
  • This is elearning platform to be used by
    • Companies
    • Colleges
  • Employees/Students can access e-learning platform from any where in the globe to access trainings which are
    • video files
    • audio files
    • powerpoint presentations
    • interactive web tutorials
  • For this they have hired Mark, Now Mark has to design this application to work on AWS Preview
  • So Mark needs to design a solution which is globally accessible and should have low-latency.

Scenario: Archival and Backup

  • Learning thoughts has a product e-quote which has quotations for the insurance.
  • These quotes are store in the data center of learning thoughts.
  • Now learning thoughts wants to implement backup and archival of data into AWS Cloud.
  • So how to design solution for this.

Important Storage Terminologies

  • Data Availability:
    • Availability refers to up-time (i.e. storage system is operational and can deliver data on request)
    • To Increase Availability, Data is copied into multiple storage hardwares (Redundancy)
  • Data Durability:
    • This property is whether the stored data is not degraded or corrupted.
    • Data durability is focused data is not lost or comprimised.
  • IOPS:
    • This stands for Input/Output Operations per second
    • This is measurement of performance of hard-drives (HDD/SSD)
  • Throughput:
    • This measure the data transfer rate to from storage media in megabytes per second.
