Observability

• Observability is an abiliity to understand internal workings of the system by combining metrics, logs and traces
  
• Metrics:
  • Metric is a number which has dimensions
    • cpu usage: 41 : 12/April/2025 16:57
• Log: This is an event occured in a system

Exercise

• Create an ubuntu vm
• install prometheus on this vm
• Install node exporter to collect vm details and send it to prometheus
• now install docker and run any container
• configure node exporter to send docker metrics to prometheus
• Watch classroom video for rest of configuration
