Docker

• Docker was named after dock workers.
• Docker was a side project in a company called as dotcloud
• Solomon Hykes had first demonstrated docker in a pycon and it became overnight success
• Company name changed from dotCloud to Docker Inc.
• Containers were introduced in linux in late 90’s, it was very difficult to launch containers as it needed low level codeing, very few companies like Google have adopted containers.
• Docker succesfully democratized the idea of container
• During this period microsoft has changed the operating system behavior of windows to support container technology
• Versions post Window 10 and windows 2016 server support containers natively.
