Server Migrations Using Azure

  • Server Migration Expectation
  • To perform Server Migrations, Azure has Azure Migrate which provides a central hub to assess and migrate on-premises servers, infrastrucutre and data to Azure
  • Azure Migrate also allows us to work with
  • Native Azure Migration
  • ISV (Independent Service Vendor) => Third Party
  • Azure Migration has basically two steps
  • Assessment
  • Migrate
  • The Azure Migrate Supports following migrations
  • Servers:
    • VM Ware to Azure
    • Hyper-V to Azure
    • Physical Server to Azure
  • Virtual Desktop
  • Data

Lab Setup

  • Simulated On-premise with Nested Virtualization Azure VM

Setup Azure Migrate Project

  • Follow the steps



Create the Nested Virtualiaton Supported VM

  • Source Resource Group => Create a resource group called as onpremises
  • Source Network Configuration => Create a vnet in this resource group on-premises

  • Nested Virtualization is supported in Ds_V3 series. Create a windows 2016 datacenter in this Series





  • Now Lets configure the DNS Name

  • Login into the create vm using mstsc -v <public ip/dns> and Wait for the Server Manager to be Launched
  • Install Hyper-V Using Server Manager or using Powershell Launched as admin Install-WindowsFeature -Name HyperV -IncludeManagementTools -Restart
  • Nexts Steps:
  • Login into the Hyper-V Server
  • Create two vms
  • Then prepare for migration
